Wow wow wow。 It has been a long time since I've read a crime/thriller novel where I was literally gawking at each twist。 I saw nothing coming。 The way McAllister brings this book together is really mind blowing。 As you read Jen's thought process as she puts together the timeline, it also comes together for the reader along side her 。 Wrong Place Wrong Time is really something else。 I'd recommend picking a rainy day to read this book, when you can sit down with numerous cups of tea and devour it。 Wow wow wow。 It has been a long time since I've read a crime/thriller novel where I was literally gawking at each twist。 I saw nothing coming。 The way McAllister brings this book together is really mind blowing。 As you read Jen's thought process as she puts together the timeline, it also comes together for the reader along side her 。 Wrong Place Wrong Time is really something else。 I'd recommend picking a rainy day to read this book, when you can sit down with numerous cups of tea and devour it。 。。。more

Solid enough read。 The time travel facet was interesting and I liked how the main character, Jen, struggled to figure out the rules, which seemed much more true to life than in other similar books。 I didn’t guess all the twists until the final couple chapters so that was cool as well。 I did wonder though if this might have not been better from a first person POV - I never really felt a connection with Jen and didn’t feel like I understood who she was a person without her son or husband in the pi Solid enough read。 The time travel facet was interesting and I liked how the main character, Jen, struggled to figure out the rules, which seemed much more true to life than in other similar books。 I didn’t guess all the twists until the final couple chapters so that was cool as well。 I did wonder though if this might have not been better from a first person POV - I never really felt a connection with Jen and didn’t feel like I understood who she was a person without her son or husband in the picture。 。。。more

Quite possibly one of the hardest book reviews I've ever tried to write。 To talk about the plot is far too difficult, it's complex, intriguing and structured so cleverly that anything I say would just confuse you! It's a crime novel, it's a time-slip story and it's a stylish and precise look at the strength of a mother's love and the impact that long kept secrets can have on a family。I was able to read this in almost one sitting。 It's not a short novel, there are over 400 pages。 I started this a Quite possibly one of the hardest book reviews I've ever tried to write。 To talk about the plot is far too difficult, it's complex, intriguing and structured so cleverly that anything I say would just confuse you! It's a crime novel, it's a time-slip story and it's a stylish and precise look at the strength of a mother's love and the impact that long kept secrets can have on a family。I was able to read this in almost one sitting。 It's not a short novel, there are over 400 pages。 I started this as I sat in the airport waiting for a flight, I continued it as we sat on the tarmac for almost two hours, waiting for a slot to take off, and finished it during the three hour flight to Corfu。 Absolutely no 'delay stress' from me, I was totally entertained throughout, hardly raising my gaze from this compelling and extremely clever story。 Jen witnesses her teenage son Todd stab and kill a man。 She is horrified and cannot believe that her usually mild mannered boy has done such a violent thing。 Jen knows that Todd will go to prison for this and she has no idea which way to turn。 The next morning, Jen wakes and it is the day before the murder happened。 Todd is in his bedroom, slightly bemused by his mother's anxiety, having no idea what she saw happen。 And so it continues, each day Jen wakes and she's further and further back in the past, and what she learns will turn her whole life on its head。 I was totally and utterly transfixed by this story, it's clever and unusual and each reveal shocked me just a little bit more。 It did take a while to settle into the style, but once you are in, you are in!I have no idea how Gillian McAllister kept on top of her plot, it's seamlessly done。 Really skilled writing, something a little bit different and highly recommended by me。 。。。more

Every once in awhile I come across a truly clever and gifted author who constructs a uniquely written book and this is a prime example of such。 The protagonist, Jen, witnesses her teenage son murder a man who is a complete stranger to her。 Her son is arrested and the next day Jen wakes up expecting the nightmare to continue。 Instead, she has gone backwards in time。 As each day regresses, Jen seeks to find the answers to why her son murdered this man and why she is reliving her life backwards。Thi Every once in awhile I come across a truly clever and gifted author who constructs a uniquely written book and this is a prime example of such。 The protagonist, Jen, witnesses her teenage son murder a man who is a complete stranger to her。 Her son is arrested and the next day Jen wakes up expecting the nightmare to continue。 Instead, she has gone backwards in time。 As each day regresses, Jen seeks to find the answers to why her son murdered this man and why she is reliving her life backwards。This was exquisitely crafted and I can't imagine how much time and finesse it took to accomplish this original plot。 Not many authors could pull this off so successfully。 As each chapter progresses, readers and Jen alike are given insight into this overlying and very deeply rooted and complex mystery。 The ending is beyond brilliant and will have readers gasping and wanting more。Many thanks to Netgalley, Edelweiss, William Morrow and Gillian McAllister for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

Full disclaimer, this wasn’t what I was expecting so I think I became a bit grumpy with it initially and never shook that feeling。 It just felt daft, which yes I know it’s science fiction but the beauty is in those that feel somewhat plausible。 This just didn’t tick the boxes for me though I applaud the effort and the writing was easy enough to read。 Maybe I should have started with some of the authors other titles。 Not for me。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is a different and innovative read in many ways, with time loops and surprises along the way。 The story is brilliant and so is the idea of this time travel plot。 Spoiler alert; the conclusion though is just a little bit too good to be "true" for my middle age, jaded and loving-the-WTF-ending mind。 But still highly recommended! It will have a place on my tbr-again-shelf somewhere down the line。 Looking forward to new releases from this clever and exciting author。 This is a different and innovative read in many ways, with time loops and surprises along the way。 The story is brilliant and so is the idea of this time travel plot。 Spoiler alert; the conclusion though is just a little bit too good to be "true" for my middle age, jaded and loving-the-WTF-ending mind。 But still highly recommended! Brilliant thriller。 High concept, brilliantly executed。 A woman sees a terrible crime, then wakes up the day before it happens and has to work out what led to it and try to stop it。 About a lot of things other than the crime, this book explores the guilt of being a working mother, the nature of relationships and the choices we make which can change a life。 Very clever, I stayed up late and got up early to read it。

This is such a cool thriller/mystery! I have read some of Gillian McAllister's other books and really enjoyed them, so I knew this one would be good。 Especially after I saw the premise。 One evening, Jen Brotherhood witnesses her son, Todd, committing a murder。 It's shocking enough (obviously) but it's even more shocking when she wakes up the next morning and it's the previous day。 The murder hasn't happened yet, and Jen has to figure out what's going on。 She's waking up further and further back This is such a cool thriller/mystery! The afterword explains that McAllister wanted to write a book in the vein of Russian Doll, a show I'm obsessed with, so I'm not surprised that I liked this novel so much。 You'll just have to read it to see how everything works out。 。。。more

When Jen's normal, happy son Todd commits murder one night her whole life is not so much turned upside down but sent backwards。 Each day she wakes further and further back in her past allowing her to unravel what caused everything to spiral out of control so suddenly。 An absolutely riveting read full of suspense, thrills and shocks especially when the truth gradually emerges。 Every Gillian McAllister is a total treat but this one is a triumph。 Just spine tingly fabulous。 When Jen's normal, happy son Todd commits murder one night her whole life is not so much turned upside down but sent backwards。 Each day she wakes further and further back in her past allowing her to unravel what caused everything to spiral out of control so suddenly。 An absolutely riveting read full of suspense, thrills and shocks especially when the truth gradually emerges。 Every Gillian McAllister is a total treat but this one is a triumph。 Just spine tingly fabulous。 。。。more

Wow! This was a great read。 A really unusual concept, starting with a murder, we then follow the murderer's mum back in time as she tries to find out why the murder took place。 I liked the way the time travel was dealt with in a matter of fact fashion, rather than pondering more in detail as in a science fiction book。I thought that the relationships in the book were all portrayed very well too。Will definitely be on the hunt for more books by this author。 Wow! I’ve long been a fan of Gillian McAllister - long before she became a writer in fact when she had her blog BillyGean。 I loved the idea of Wrong Place, Wrong Time and it didn’t disappoint。 The only thing I’d say first off is that Gillian writes excellent novels - her ideas are always fantastic and unique, though, imo, I don’t always gel with her characters。 This one especially was tough because Jen is pretty much the focal point and everything is seen through her eyes。 I liked Jen well enough, th I’ve long been a fan of Gillian McAllister - long before she became a writer in fact when she had her blog BillyGean。 I loved the idea of Wrong Place, Wrong Time and it didn’t disappoint。 The only thing I’d say first off is that Gillian writes excellent novels - her ideas are always fantastic and unique, though, imo, I don’t always gel with her characters。 This one especially was tough because Jen is pretty much the focal point and everything is seen through her eyes。 I liked Jen well enough, this novel just didn’t have the emotional depth of the last novel I read (review below)。 Of course that’s a personal opinion and others may not think that。 Wrong Place, Wrong Time is a novel told backwards。 Which probably sounds confusing but it actually works so incredibly well。 What happens is Jen is staying up the night before Halloween Eve waiting for her son, she’s watching out the window when her son, Todd, appears in the street。 However all isn’t as it seems as another man appears and Todd stabs and kills this man。 All Jen can see is a bleak future for Todd, jail and crime his future now。 When Jen wakes the next morning, it isn’t the next morning。 It’s the day prior。 The day of。 And Jen keeps waking up each day further back in the past than she was previously - be it a day prior or months and even years prior。 Jen isn’t sure why she keeps waking up in the past, but it soon becomes clear that if she’s going to stop Todd becoming a murderer she’s going to have to re-live life backwards until she figures out what it is that could change the moment。 This was a bloody brilliant plot - it was very clever and the tiny details Gillian McAllister must have dug through to make sure everything was correct and timely for the time was fantastic。 I liked as well that Jen didn’t just have the chance to try to save Todd。 Her dad passed away and that added another strand - could she save him? Then we had an additional narrative for someone called Ryan。 It was just a very, very clever plot and McAllister pulled it off with aplomb。 I’d definitely recommend this one, I enjoyed it and it was a very quick read for me! 。。。more

I really enjoyed this one! Fast paced, going backwards in time to fill in the gaps。 It wasn’t until around page 300 that I realised what was happening, then Jen and Kelly’s story started surfacing properly! Highly recommend!

Wowsers。 What a clever clever storyline。 Makes you think too much about what you would do yourself if you woke up and could feel your hip bones again!! Jen will do anything to stop her son from going to prison。 A mothers strength is beyond our imaginations sometimes but to gradually progress back through Time to change events is some damn strength。 I have been a fan of Gillian’s books for a while but this is simply the best。 Could not put it down。
